Premier League matchday seven begins on Saturday and there happens to be the most tantalizing fixture of the weekend in North London. Spurs are fresh off an impressive 2-2 draw with rivals Arsenal and have yet to lose this term. The same can be said for the Merseysiders, who trashed West Ham 3-1 on matchday six. Below, we’ll discuss the head-to-head history between these sides and preview the game.

Liverpool Dominating Tottenham

History is undoubtedly on Liverpool’s side. They’re riding a 12-game unbeaten run dating back to 2017 versus Tottenham, notching nine victories and also drawing three times. That includes their win in the 2019 Champions League final. Last season, the Reds completed the double over Spurs, winning 2-1 and 4-3. Confidence will be high.

Spurs looking solid

I don’t think anyone could’ve predicted Tottenham would be towards the top of the table after the departure of talisman Harry Kane, who is now playing for Bayern Munich. But, Spurs are actually thriving, posting a 4-2-0 record to start the campaign. The goals are flowing, netting 15 times in six outings while conceding just seven. They’ve also won both of their games on home soil thus far.

The North London Derby is always a thrill and it did not disappoint on Sunday. Arsenal opened the scoring after Cristian Romero deflected a long-range Bukayo Saka shot into his own net, but just before halftime, James Maddison linked up with Heung-min Son for a beautiful equalizer. While Saka ended up netting from the spot early in the second period, Maddison and Son produced another goal literally a minute later, ultimately helping Tottenham secure an important point.

Spurs are really playing nice football at the moment. Maddison has proven to be a massive signing for this squad and Son is coming into his own as the go-to frontman. Although their recent form against Liverpool is poor, both meetings in 2022-23 were decided by a mere one goal. This could go either way, hence why they have +190 odds at 888sport.

Liverpool’s attack is daunting

There’s no beating around the bush. Liverpool was disappointing last season, only finishing in a Europa spot, which is just not the usual for a club of this stature. But after a couple of key signings this summer, the Reds could potentially even give Manchester City a run for their money for the title. Jurgen Klopp’s men are 5-1-0 and sit just one point behind the reigning champs.

Most notably, the Liverpool attack is just flourishing. Mo Salah has three goals and four assists, while Darwin Nunez has three as well. Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz have hit the back of the net twice each and Cody Gakpo is no pushover, either. Klopp has so many options.

Salah was the reason for the Reds’ first goal against West Ham, getting taken down by Edson Alvarez in the box which led to him converting the penalty. Jarrod Bowen did draw the Hammers level, but Nunez scored a beauty to put the Merseysiders ahead for good. Jota added another late in the second half, too.

Liverpool’s biggest issue last term was their backline, which looked shaky at times. That has not been the case in 2023-24, allowing only five goals. They must be sharp again on Saturday because one mistake can hurt them with clinical finishers on the other side like Son, Richarlison, and Maddison. Regardless, Klopp’s boys are a favorite at virtually all soccer betting sites. Three points is the only objective here.
