Premier League: Tottenham vs West Ham betting preview

This is the time of the year when Premier League games are at a premium. That means we have mid-week fixtures regularly. Thursday marks the end of matchday 15 as Tottenham plays host to London rivals West Ham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The kick-off is scheduled for 3:15 PM EST. Spurs are coming off a thrilling yet impressive 3-3 draw with title-holders Manchester City last weekend and currently sit fifth in the table. As for the Hammers, they’re down in ninth and most recently played to a 1-1 stalemate with Crystal Palace over the weekend.

This is the first meeting of the campaign between these two sides, but West Ham is winless in the last four matches against Tottenham. During that span, there’s only been one draw. Back in February, Spurs beat them 2-0 on this same ground.

Quick Take

  • Tottenham and West Ham lock horns on Thursday
  • Spurs are a home favorite

Spurs have dropped back

Tottenham started the campaign in flying form, going unbeaten in their first 10 games. Everything was going right for a side who lost their talisman Harry Kane in the summer to Bayern Munich. But, since that last win on October 27th at Palace, Spurs have lost three of four. First, it was a step 4-1 defeat to Chelsea where they were forced to play with nine men while also falling to Wolves and Aston Villa.

And while the Lilywhites only grabbed a point versus City, it was considered a positive outcome based on how things have been going in recent weeks. It also showed that Ange Postecoglou’s side does have what it takes to compete with the best of the best when they’re firing on all cylinders. Heung-min Son, Giovanni Lo Celso, and Dejan Kulusevski all got on the scoresheet here, with the latter dramatically bagging an injury-time equalizer.

Although Spurs didn’t have a whole lot of opportunities in the final third, they capitalized on the minimal chances. It’s also not every day a club like Man City concedes three times in a 90-minute span. Tottenham should feel confident after this result and desperately needs a victory on Thursday to try and sneak back into the top four. This winless streak has gone on long enough. The hosts are a -130 favorite here at 888sport.

West Ham finding their way

The Hammers might be ninth in the Premier League table, but they’re starting to play better football. Across all competitions, West Ham is unbeaten in five games, notching league wins over Nottingham Forest and Burnley while also beating a couple of other teams in Europa. Then on Sunday, it was a lone point against the Eagles of Crystal Palace.

David Moyes’ men got off the a great start, with former Ajax man Mohammed Kudus making his presence felt once again with his third goal of the EPL campaign. Odsonne Edouard eventually equalized in the second period for the visitors and it stayed that way.

On both ends of the pitch, however, the Hammers aren’t exactly shining. They have a neutral goal difference, scoring 24 goals and also conceding that same number of times this term. Jarrod Bowen is the leading man up top with eight goals, while Michail Antonio is struggling to find his best with only two goals. He’s also injured at the moment. West Ham is a big underdog vs Spurs at  soccer betting sites.

Injury news

Spurs are still without a plethora of players due to injuries, which is a big reason for their dip in form. Rodrigo Bentacur, James Maddison, Ivan Perisic, and several others are all in the treatment room. Cristian Romero is available to return from suspension, though. For the Hammers, Antonio is out and Kurt Zouma’s status is up in the air after an incident at his home last weekend.
