Premier League Golden Boot Odds: Erling Haaland a Massive Favorite Through First Month

Erling Haaland announced himself to the English top flight in 2022-23 with a whopping 36 goals, finishing six clear of Harry Kane, who has now left Tottenham to join German giants Bayern Munich. So far in the 2023-24 campaign, Haaland looks well on his way to winning a second Premier League Golden Boot in a row. Below, we’ll dive into five of the top contenders to win the prestigious award and discuss how realistic of a chance they could have in dethroning Haaland.

Quick Take

  • Erling Haaland is the frontrunner to win the EPL Golden Boot
  • The Norwegian already has six goals in four games this term
  • Keep reading to find out more about the potential contenders

Erling Haaland

Best player in the world? There’s an argument to be had. The Manchester City striker made history last season with his 36 goals, the most ever for a Premier League player in a single campaign. Truly remarkable. The Norwegian made a massive difference for Pep Guardiola’s side and has already hit the ground running in 2023-24, netting six times in four games, including a hat-trick over the weekend against Fulham. With -400 odds at 888sport to win the Golden Boot just a month into the season, it’s safe to say the sportsbooks fully expect Haaland to run away with the award again. It wouldn’t be surprising at all.

Mo Salah

Salah is the next closest in the odds, having won the Golden Boot three times before, although two of those times were shared. Nonetheless, the Egyptian has proven to be one of the most clinical finishers in England, putting away 19 goals last season. So far this term, he’s hit the back of the net twice in four appearances. Not bad by any means but in order to keep up with Haaland, Salah will need to pick it up. A difficult task to say the least.

Heung-Min Son

With Kane departing for Germany, it’s opened up an opportunity for Heung-Min Son to be Spurs’ talisman. While he’s been a respectable goal scorer and playmaker for many years in North London, he can now become their main man. The South Korean got off the mark over the weekend with a hat-trick against Burnley and will surely be confident. His best season was in 2021-22, scoring 23. That was enough to share the Golden Boot honors with Salah. Most soccer betting sites have Son around +2500 odds to win it again. Very steep.

Marcus Rashford

Rashford is undoubtedly Manchester United’s most reliable finisher and had his best season to date in 2022-23, scoring 17 Premier League goals and supplying five assists. He opened his account on the weekend as well in a defeat to Arsenal. But considering the path Haaland is on, it’s hard to imagine Rashford having any chance of besting the City frontman.

Alexander Isak

Isak really looked good in his first season with Newcastle last year after coming over in January, scoring 10 in 22 outings. He’s already netted twice in four games this term as well, starting up top for the Magpies over Callum Wilson. In all honesty, though, Isak has no shot of winning the Golden Boot. Regardless, he’ll be an important player for Newcastle as they return to Champions League football.
