Premier League: Arsenal vs Chelsea betting preview

The 2023-24 Premier League season continues this week as the campaign slowly draws to a close. On Tuesday, we have a classic encounter between two of the top flight’s most prestigious clubs as Arsenal plays host to Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium. The kick-off is scheduled for 3 PM ET. The Gunners are currently tied for first place, so every single match is absolutely crucial. As for the Blues, they’re down in ninth place but will be looking to finish the term on a high note. Below, we’ll preview the fixture and discuss any injuries.

Quick Take

  • The Gunners are a heavy moneyline favorite

Arsenal

It’s common knowledge that Arsenal was in the title race in 2022-23 before falling off a cliff towards the end of the season. This term, however, it appears they’re going to finish strong and give in their best shot. The Gunners are 23-5-5, bagging a league-best 77 goals while conceding a league-low 26 times.

Although Mikel Arteta’s side just lost back-to-back games last week to Aston Villa and then Bayern Munich in the Champions League, they got back on track over the weekend with a 2-0 victory over Wolves. Leandro Trossard scored just before halftime while Martin Odegaard added another in injury time. Arsenal had a whopping 24 chances and nine on target but only managed to score twice. It was enough to secure the three points, though.

Surprisingly enough, the Gunners will be aiming to end a two-game losing run at the Emirates, a place where they normally flourish. Arsenal is 12-2-2 on home soil in league action this term. It’s important to note that Arteta’s men haven’t lost two consecutive games at home since April of 2022. Plus, they’ve won six of the last eight meetings with Chelsea. The return fixture at Stamford Bridge ended level at 2-2. The Gunners are a big -210 favorite at Bodog sportsbook.

Chelsea

It’s been another disappointing campaign for Chelsea. Spending boatloads of money in past transfer windows hasn’t seemed to help much, with the club set to miss out on European football for the second season in a row. The Blues own a 13-8-10 record, having scored 61 goals but conceding 52. You can see that Chelsea’s backline is a major problem.

Mauricio Pochettino’s group had an opportunity to potentially play in the FA Cup Final, but they lost over the weekend to Manchester City in the semifinals. To put it bluntly, this is a match the Blues should’ve won considering how tired City were from their Champions League week plus the plethora of chances. Nicolas Jackson missed two sitters, a common occurrence for him in his debut season.

As of late, however, Chelsea’s Premier League form has been solid. They’re enjoying a seven-game unbeaten run in the top flight, with wins over the likes of Man City, Everton, and Newcastle during that span. Cole Palmer has proven to be a dream signing for the club, now leading the EPL with 20 goals. He’s clearly the future at Stamford Bridge or at least part of it. The Blues are an underdog on Tuesday at soccer betting sites.

Injury news

Arsenal is relatively healthy. Jurrien Timber still remains out due to a torn ACL, while Takehiro Tomiyasu is dealing with a minor injury. It’s a much different story for Chelsea, who have seven players hurt. That includes Robert Sanchez, Reece James, Wesley Fofana, and Romeo Lavia. Also, Palmer is dealing with an illness and is unlikely to feature, which is a huge blow for the visitors.
