Almost every contender’s fan base has hopes of finishing the regular season with the best record in their conference and in the league. Last season, the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles were the teams with the best record in their conferences and league thanks to 14-3 seasons. The Chiefs and Eagles are two of the favourites to finish at the top of the league again. The reigning Super Bowl champions Chiefs are the betting favourites on NFL betting sites. They have +449 odds on Tonybet. The Eagles have the second best odds at +649. The Arizona Cardinals have the lowest odds at +29900.
NFL: Which team will have the best record?
Quick Take
- Kansas City Chiefs favoured to finish with the best record
- Arizona Cardinals have the worst odds
- Multiple teams worthy of consideration
The Chiefs are the betting favourites
The Chiefs have been one of the most dominant and consistent teams during the Patrick Mahomes era. Betting on the Chiefs almost always seems like a good bet with Mahomes at quarterback. The Chiefs have finished with the best record in the league twice since he became their starting QB, and twice in the last three years. According to multiple reports, Chiefs DT Chris Jones is holding out because he is unhappy with his contract situation. On paper, this is a huge loss for the Chiefs and should hurt their chances. But the Chiefs lost WR Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins last season. Regardless, they finished with the top record in the league.
The rest of the teams in the league will inevitably deal with injuries and problems, so the Chiefs are still one of the most reliable teams here. The Eagles look like the safe bet right now. They have a loaded roster and should have a lot of motivation after losing to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl last season. If quarterback Jalen Hurts gets any better this year, there is no reason the Eagles should not have one of the best records at the end of the season.

Which contender will step up?
With the third best odds at +749, the Cincinnati Bengals are not looking like a great choice because of quarterback Joe Burrow’s calf injury. Burrow suffered a calf strain during practice in late July. He was carted off the field. Betting on the Bengals will be a huge risk if Burrow misses a couple of games to start the season because winning 15 or 14 games — which a team will probably need to finish with the best record — will not be realistic if the Bengals start the season with a 1-2 or 0-3 record. Their first three games are against the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens, and Los Angeles Chargers.
On paper, the Buffalo Bills have everything they need to contend for the top spot in the league. They had one of the top defenses in the league last year and have one of the top QB/WR duos in the NFL. The Bills have also been fortunate this offseason to avoid injuries and holdouts. A big concern is their schedule. They will play road games against the Bengals, Chiefs, Eagles, and Chargers.
A few more teams worth considering
Dallas Cowboys
- With firepower on offense and defense, the Cowboys can not be counted out. At +1398, taking a risk on the Cowboys could lead to a huge payout. A lot of their best players are just entering their prime, so we might see them take the next step this year.
San Francisco 49ers
- The 49ers have one of the best rosters in the league. They had the number one scoring defense last year and have elite weapons on offense. Quarterback is one of the few concerns for the 49ers. Brock Purdy’s play will likely be the deciding factor here.
Baltimore Ravens
- At +1198, the Ravens might be worth the risk. The Ravens are almost always competitive as of late. If quarterback Lamar Jackson has another MVP season, the Ravens should be in the mix.
New York Jets
- Any decent team with Aaron Rodgers has a shot. At +2996, the Jets are worth considering. They most likely will not finish the season with the best record because the team was just put together, but do not be shocked if they pull it off.
