NFL: Caleb Williams goes #1, Will He Win Offensive Rookie of the Year?

The 2024-2025 NFL Draft is complete, and the upcoming season is approaching fast. The schedules for the regular season will be released in May. Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, the first pick in the draft, might be the most hyped player in the draft, but will he win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award? Right now, the award is his to lose.

Quick Take

  • NFL 2024-2025 rookie award races
  • Caleb Williams favoured to win AP Offensive Rookie of the Year after going number one in draft
  • Defensive Rookie of the Year betting info

Caleb Williams the front-runner to win AP Offensive Rookie of the Year

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is the betting favourite to win the 2024-2025 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year award on the NFL betting sites. The Bears selected Williams with the first pick in the NFL Draft. He is the betting favourite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year by a slight margin on Bodog. Williams has +210 odds. Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. has the second best odds to win the award at +600. Harrison Jr. was the fourth pick in the draft. The second pick in the draft and Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has the third best odds at +900.

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud won the award last season. Stroud was the second pick in the 2023-2024 draft. A quarterback won this award four out of the last 10 times. Dak Prescott, Justin Herbet, Kyler Murray, and Stroud are the QBs who took home the award during that stretch. The other six winners were running backs and wide receivers, three RBs and three WRs. Since 2000, QBs have taken this award home more than any other position with 10 wins, RBs are second with nine wins.

Williams’ award to lose right now

The Bears made a lot of moves to improve their offence over the last couple of seasons. The Bears’ offence now has WR Keenan Allen, WR DJ Moore, and RB D’Andre Swift.  Williams should have a great shot at this award because of those upgrades on offence and the position he plays. Williams is recognized as a potential franchise QB. If he is close and the Bears are a playoff team or in the mix, he will probably be a top two or three candidate with a great shot at taking home the award.

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua didn’t win the award after finishing last season with 1,486 yards, six touchdowns, and over 100 catches. Stroud won for leading his team to the playoffs as the man behind center and his numbers. Harrison Jr. and the rest of the rookies on offence will have a tough time prying the award away from Williams if he has a similar season as Stroud. The other quarterbacks in the mix are Daniels, Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy at +1000, and New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye at +1500.

A few players who could be in the mix and Defensive Rookie of the Year info

The other quarterbacks drafted in the first round, Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix and Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr., currently have veteran QBs on their team and might not start. Nix has +2000 odds to win the award and Penix Jr. is at +5000. Las Vegas Raiders tight end and number 13 pick Brock Bowers has +3500 odds. A tight end has never won the award. Bowers would be the first TE to win the award in NFL history if he can pull it off.

Minnesota Vikings linebacker, and the 17th pick in the draft, Dallas Turner is the betting favourite to win the Defensive Rookie of the Year award. Turner has +450 odds. Indianapolis Colts defensive end Laiatu Latu has the second best odds at +550. There is a huge gap after the top two. At +1100, Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold is third. Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr. won the award last year. Four of the last 10 winners were defensive ends. Three cornerbacks, two linebackers, and one defensive tackle also won the award during that stretch.
