NFL: Buffalo Bills Favoured Against Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round

The Buffalo Bills defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in week 14. The Bills went on to win the rest of their games. The Chiefs lost one. Now they will have a rematch with a trip to the AFC championship on the line. This is also a huge game for both quarterbacks as Patrick Mahomes tries to cement himself as one of the greatest players of all time and Josh Allen attempts to reach his first Super Bowl. The odds are close on NFL betting sites.

Quick Take

  • Josh Allen vs Patrick Mahomes
  • The Bills favoured by small margin
  • Winner goes to the AFC Championship Game

Game details

The Buffalo Bills will play against the defending champions Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round of the playoffs on January 21. The winner will head to the AFC Championship Game and play the winner of the game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans. The Bills defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-17 in round one and are the early betting favourites heading into this game. They have -150 odds to win the game on Betway. The Chiefs are the underdogs after a 26-7 win against the Miami Dolphins in the wild card round. They have +125 odds to defeat the Bills. The point spread betting market is three points. The Bills at -3. The Chiefs at +3.

Buffalo, Buffalo, Buffalo

Since week 14 the Buffalo Bills have a perfect record. The Bills last loss was to the Philadelphia Eagles in week 12, a 37-34 game. They are 6-0 following that game and won games against the Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, and Steelers in round one of the playoffs. The Bills continue to find ways to win games, whether with their defence, running the ball, or behind quarterback Josh Allen’s arm. The Bills have shown the ability to win games in a variety of ways. They often found ways to lose during the first half of the regular season.

The Bills should have a great shot in this game because of their play on both sides of the ball. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have talent on offence, but that talent has not resulted in a ton of points. The Bills and Chiefs played one another in week 14. Buffalo won that game 20-17, but could have been on the losing end if one or two plays went Chiefs’ way. This team looks like they have gotten better since then thanks to decisive wins against playoff teams. If the Bills continue to play well on both sides of the ball, they will be tough to beat. It is hard to imagine how the Chiefs will win this game if Allen has a great game and his defence plays well.

Here the Chiefs Come Again

Although the defending Super Bowl champions have looked beatable throughout this season, they have been trending upwards — similar to their opponents on Sunday — since they played the Bills in week 14. Head coach Andy Reid’s squad lost only one game after losing to the Bills. That loss was to a reinvigorated Las Vegas Raiders team that scored 63 points the week before. The Chiefs have Mahomes at quarterback and one of the best defences in the league this year that just held the Miami Dolphins to seven points in the first round of the playoffs.

If Mahomes does not have a bad game and the rest of the offence carries their weight, the Chiefs should be in this one. This team has a ton of playoff experience and knows how to win big games in the playoffs. And in their minds, they probably believe they should have beat the Bills in week 14. Allen has been great for the Bills, but the Chiefs have two Super Bowls with Mahomes under center. Are you sure the Bills and Allen have what it takes to beat Mahomes, Reid, Travis Kelce and the Chiefs in the playoff game? The Chiefs have two playoff wins over the Bills in recent years, a 38-24 win in 2020 and a 42-36 win in 2021.
