NBA: Stephen Curry Slightly Favoured Against Sabrina Ionescu In Three-Point Contest

The best three-point shooter in the NBA will go head-to-head with the WNBA’s 2023 three-point contest winner at All-Star Weekend this year. The odds are a lot closer than many might anticipate. Stephen Curry is the betting favourite, but he is not favoured by a huge margin. Sabrina Ionescu will be looking to prove doubters wrong with a strong performance against the best shooter in the NBA.

NBA vs WNBA at All-Star Weekend

Golden State Warriors star guard Stephen Curry is favoured to beat New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu in the first ever NBA vs WNBA 3-Point Challenge at All-Star Weekend this year in Indianapolis. Curry has -330 odds to win on Bodog. Ionescu is only a small underdog. She has +200 odds to pull off the upset. This betting market is not available on all NBA betting sites.

The NBA announced the three-point contest on January 30. According to NBA.com, the NBA vs WNBA 3-Point Challenge will be part of the 2024 State Farm All-Star Saturday Night on February 17 and happen after the regular three-point contest, the Starry 3-Point contest, and right before the AT&T Slam Dunk contest. The Kia Skills Challenge will be the first event of the night.

The numbers for Stephen Curry vs Sabrina Ionescu

Ionescu won the WNBA’s 2023 3-point contest with a record performance. Ionescu made 25 of her 27 three-point attempts to give her a score of 37 points out of a total 40 points. Ionescu finished second in the WNBA in three-point percentage with 44.8% during the 2023 regular season, the highest three-point percentage of her career. She was third in attempts per game at 7.9. Ionescu will shoot from the WNBA three-point line and use WNBA basketballs during the contest. Curry will shoot from the NBA three-point line and use NBA basketballs.

Curry has two three-point contest wins under his belt. He won the shootout in 2021 and 2015. Curry’s highest score in a round is 31 points in 2021. Curry is having one of the worst three-point shooting seasons of his career through 43 games. He is currently shooting 41.1% from three which would tie for second lowest of his career if the season ended today. Curry is 42 of 88, 47%, from three since January 24.

The odds are out for the 2024 All-Star Game also. The All-Star Game will happen one day after State Farm All-Star Saturday Night on February 18. The full rosters for the Eastern and Western Conferences were recently announced, so now know who will probably play in the game, injuries could still change things. The west all-stars are currently the betting favourites on Bodog. The west has -140 odds to win the game. The east all-stars are underdogs right now. The east has +120 odds. 

The All-Star Game will return to the normal format this year, four quarters and 12 minutes per quarter. The starters for the east are Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Haliburton, Damian Lillard, and Jayson Tatum. The reserves are Bam Adebayo, Paolo Banchero, Jaylen Brown, Jalen Brunson, Tyrese Maxey, Donovan Mitchell, and Julius Randle.
