McLaren Favoured to Win the Constructors’ Championship

As Red Bull slows down, one team has moved ahead on the sportsbooks.

Lando Norris and McLaren win the Dutch Grand Prix

McLaren’s Lando Norris won the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday. Oscar Piastri finished in fourth. Norris’ 26 points and Piastri’s 12 points brought McLaren’s Constructors’ Championship points up to 404, 30 behind Red Bull. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished in second and picked up 18 points. Sergio Perez finished in the sixth spot and picked up 8 points. Red Bull, 434 total points, still have the lead in the standings, but they are underdogs on the F1 betting sites. Right now, McLaren are the betting favourites. On BetRivers, McLaren have -286 odds to pass Red Bull and finish at the top of the standings. Red Bull are now +200 underdogs with nine races remaining this season.

Verstappen, Perez, and Red Bull were heavily favoured to take home the trophy before the start of the season. At that point Red Bull had -400 odds to win the Constructors’ Championship while Norris, Piastri, and McLaren were +600 underdogs. But at this moment, the sportsbooks have McLaren as the betting favourites and aren’t giving any other team other than Red Bull a shot based on the odds. The next closest team is Mercedes at +3300. Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, and Mercedes currently have 276 points, good for fourth. Ferrari have the fourth best odds with +4000. Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz, and Ferrari are third in the standings with 370 points and only 34 points behind the betting favourites. All of the other teams — Aston Martin, Haas, and Visa Cash App RB — that BetRivers is taking bets for are +500000 underdogs. 

The Drivers’ Championship

Despite losing the Dutch Grand Prix, Verstappen is the betting favourite to win the Drivers’ Championship by a wide margin. Verstappen has -480 odds. Verstappen is leading the standings by 70 points. He has 295 points after the Dutch Grand Prix. Norris is in second with 225 points.

Norris has the second best odds. Norris has +300 odds. There is a gigantic gap between the top two and the rest of the grid. Piastri and Leclerc are tied for the third best odds at +15000. Piastri is fourth in the standings with 179 points. Leclerc has 192 points. A McLaren driver has won two out of the last three races. Verstappen hasn’t won a race since the Spanish Grand Prix.

The Italian Grand Prix

Odds were released for the Italian Grand Prix on September 1. Norris is the betting favourite. He has +100 odds and is slightly ahead of Verstappen. Verstappen has the second best odds at +275. Piastri is third at +400. Hamilton is tied with teammate Russell for the fifth best odds. They are +1000 underdogs.

Williams’ Logan Sargeant is the betting favourite with +1000 odds. Zhou Guanyu and Kevin Magnussen are tied for second at +1200. The other race special is for the first constructor to retire during the race. Haas are +550 betting favourites. Williams, Alpine, and Kick Sauber are next. Williams are second at +650 odds. Alpine and Kick Sauber are tied with +700 odds.
