Israel Adesanya huge favourite at UFC 293 against Sean Strickland

Israel Adesanya will defend his UFC middleweight championship against Sean Strickland at UFC 293 on September 9 in Australia. This is Adesanya’s first title defense since reclaiming the middleweight title from Alex Pereira at UFC 287 in April. Adesanya is a huge betting favourite in this fight on UFC betting sites. The odds indicate that Strickland has almost no shot in this fight. Strickland’s odds to win this fight are almost as low as the Korean Zombie’s odds were against Max Holloway.

Adesanya is coming off arguably the best win of his career, a knockout victory over his nemesis Alex Pereira. He has a 24-2 record, and both of the men who defeated him currently fight in the light heavyweight division.

This fight looks like a great matchup for Adesanya. Strickland recently lost fights against Pereira and Jared Cannonier that were almost exclusively fought on the feet. Adesanya’s last two victories were against Cannonier and Pereira. Adesanya is also considered one of the top, if not the best, strikers in the UFC today. He should win this fight.

Sean Strickland

Sean Strickland is the number five ranked middleweight in the UFC. He has a 27-5 professional MMA record and is a massive underdog in this fight. At +475 on 888Sport, his odds to win this fight are slim. All of Strickland’s recent fights have been fought on the feet, so he should at least have a puncher’s chance. Outside of a puncher’s chance, there are almost no reasons to bet on Strickland to win this fight. He has not shown great ability to consistently defend against strikes in his recent fights. He was knocked out by Alex Pereira and hit a lot by Cannonier in his last loss.

Adesanya is one of the best strikers in the UFC. This will be the biggest win of his career if Strickland can upset Adesanya. This is not Strickland’s first five round fight, but this is his first title fight. If Strickland can capitalize on a rare mistake by Adesanya, he could potentially put the champ in trouble and stop him. The chances of this happening are slim, but this is likely the only way Strickland can win. Strickland has not proved that he can take Adesanya down and win the fight on the ground.
