Formula 1: Red Bull favoured heading into Monaco Grand Prix

The Monaco Grand Prix will take place on May 28 in Monte Carlo. The 78 lap race is the sixth Grand Prix of the season. Red Bull has dominated Formula 1 so far this year, winning every race to date. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez will look to continue their dominance while the rest of the field attempts to pull off an upset and knock Red Bull off the top podium position.

Quick Take

  • Max Verstappen is the betting favourite
  • Lewis Hamilton has the sixth best odds
  • Red Bull with the first and second best odds to pick up sixth straight win

Red Bull

Max Verstappen is the betting favourite on F1 betting sites heading into the Monaco Grand Prix. Red Bull’s Verstappen has -120 odds to win the race on Betway. He won the Monaco Grand Prix in 2021 by a margin of over eight seconds. Verstappen has three race wins this season: the Bahrain Grand Prix, Australian Grand Prix, and Miami Grand Prix. He also has two second place finishes this season, at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Sergio Perez won this race last year by a little more than a second. Perez, Verstappen’s teammate, has the second best odds to win the race on Betway. Perez has +300 odds. Like his teammate, Perez has been dominant this year. Perez has two race wins, winning the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and Azerbaijan Grand Prix. He also finished second at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton has the sixth best odds to win the race at +2800 odds. The seven-time world champion has had a slow start to the season. Hamilton’s highest finish in a race thus far was second at the Australian Grand Prix, his only podium finish. Hamilton has history with the Monaco track, he owns the fastest lap record at 1:12.909, this was in 2021. Hamilton won the race in 2019, 2016, and 2008.

George Russell has been competitive at times this season, but has yet to finish a race in the top three. Russell is tied for the 6th best odds to win the race with Hamilton at +2800 odds. He retired from the Australian Grand Prix after his car caught fire. Russell’s highest finish this season was fourth at the Miami and Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Russell is currently sixth on the driver standings with 40 points.

Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso has been the most successful non-Red Bull driver this season. The Aston Martin driver has three podium finishes this season. He finished third at the Australian Grand Prix, Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, and Bahrain Grand Prix. He is currently third in the driver standings with 75 points. Alonso won the Monaco GP in 2006 and 2007. Alonso has the fourth best odds to win the race at +600. Alonso has only missed the podium twice this year, but those came in his last two races. However, of the four races he completed, he missed the podium once.

Ferrari

Ferrari has been one of the more competitive teams this year. Charles Leclerc has the third best odds to win at +450. He finished third at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Leclerc finished third and seventh in his last two races after retiring from the Australian Grand Prix when his car slid off the track on the first lap. Despite this, he is currently seventh on the driver standings. Carlos Sainz has fifth best odds to win the race at +2500. Sainz has yet to reach the podium this year, but has a fourth place finish and two fifth place finishes.
