F1: Formula 1 comes to Canada on June 18

Formula 1 will come to Canada for the Canadian Grand Prix, the eighth race of the season so far. The Canadian GP will take place on June 18 in Montreal, qualifying will happen on June 17. The Red Bull team continued its dominance in Spain with Max Verstappen claiming first, the seventh race win for Red Bull this year. At this moment, a driver from Red Bull has won every race. And sports betting sites have given Verstappen and Sergio Perez a good chance to pull off an eighth straight race win for their team.

Quick Take

  • Red Bull heavily favoured again ahead of Canadian Grand Prix
  • Max Verstappen the betting favourite at -300 on 888sport
  • Lewis Hamilton third best odds at +1100

Red Bull

Max Verstappen is favoured again heading into the Canadian Grand Prix. He has -300 odds on 888sport to win the race and is the favourite by a big margin. The driver with the closest odds not from Red Bull is Lewis Hamilton at +1100.

Verstappen is having an incredible season. At 170 points on the driver’s standings, Verstappen is over 50 points clear of the second place driver, his teammate Perez. Verstappen has won five races so far and has finished first or second in every Grand Prix. Based on Verstappen’s performance this season and because he won this race last year, Verstappen looks like a solid pick to win this year’s Canadian GP.

Sergio Perez has also had a strong year. He won every race Verstappen didn’t win and has two second place finishes. Despite this, he is still a big underdog to his teammate but has the second best odds to win the race at +450. Perez’s pole position seems to be linked to his starting position early on this year. He’s finished in the top two whenever he starts a race in one of the first two spots.

Perez hasn’t reached the podium when he started the race outside of the top two this year. However, that stat doesn’t mean he’s incapable. Perez finished fifth in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix after starting 20th and finished fourth in the Spanish Grand Prix after starting 11th.

Lewis Hamilton

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has the third best odds to win the race on 888sport at +1100. He is a huge underdog. Hamilton is coming off one of his best races of the season. He finished second in the Spanish Grand Prix, his second podium finish this year. Hamilton has been able to keep himself in podium contention throughout the season, but hasn’t been a huge threat to the Red Bull team yet.

If Red Bull has any problems, Hamilton will be one of the drivers looking to capitalize. Hamilton hasn’t finished a race in a lower position than he started this year. He’s currently fourth in the driver’s standings with 87 points.

Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso at +1400 is the only driver other than Hamilton with odds better than +1500, so it looks like F1 betting sites aren’t giving anyone outside of Red Bull much of a chance to win this race. Like Hamilton, Alonso has kept himself in podium contention almost every race. The Aston Martin driver finished second once and has four third place finishes this season. Although Alonso won a race, it’s not out of the realm of possibility if a couple things go his way and Red Bull runs into problems. Alonso is currently third on the driver’s standings with 99 points.
