City dominating Arsenal
Although Arsenal did beat Manchester City in the Community Shield a couple of months back, that was a rare occasion. The Sky Blues have notched eight straight wins across all competitions against the North Londoners. They also haven’t conceded more than one goal in any of those meetings. With little separating the two sides at the moment, it’s a vital clash for both teams.
Man City mostly flawless
To the surprise of no one, Pep Guardiola’s men are flying high both in the Premier League and in Europe. While the 2-1 defeat to Wolves was surely disappointing, City has barely slipped up at all. They’ve got six victories in seven EPL games and haven’t missed a beat in the Champions League, either.
The Cityzens rolled into Leipzig and ran riot on the German outfit Wednesday, winning 3-1. Phil Foden opened the scoring in the first half before the hosts equalized. However, Julian Alvarez and Jeremy Doku both hit the back of the net in the second period, with each player assisting the other, too. It was refreshing to see this City attack produce the goods without Erling Haaland getting involved at all.
Speaking of the Norwegian, he’s hit the ground running in England after breaking all sorts of records in 2022-23. Haaland has a league-best eight goals in seven appearances and netted in his last outing against Arsenal in the Premier League. Although Man City is evidently a level above the Gunners in all facets, they’re not a huge favorite here. Guardiola’s group has just +135 odds at Bodog.
Massive affair for Arsenal
The Gunners were in the driver’s seat for a lot of last season and had every chance to win the title but slipped up when it mattered most, with City ultimately overtaking them. Sunday presents an opportunity to possibly move past their rivals for the time being. Yes, it’s early in the campaign, but every game is important in a title race.
Mikel Arteta’s side is in good form in the Premier League, posting a 5-2-0 record. Their most difficult game thus far was against Tottenham in the North London derby and that encounter ended in a 2-2 stalemate. Arsenal looked very convincing last weekend versus Bournemouth too, with Kai Havertz finally opening his account for the club.
That being said, the Gunners suffered a shocking loss mid-week in the Champions League to French club Lens, 2-1. It probably wasn’t a game where Arsenal should’ve lost considering they had nearly 70% possession, but as we know, that’s just how football goes sometimes. On a more positive note, Arteta’s group did throttle PSV 4-0 in the UCL opener so they’re second in the group.
When it comes to facing City, the Gunners are actually winless in 12 straight meetings with the reigning treble winners. Not even one of those games ended level, either. A tall task is ahead, but soccer betting sites are giving them a respectable chance of finding a positive result on the weekend.
