5-1 Philadelphia Eagles favoured against the 5-1 Miami Dolphins

Two of the top teams in the NFL will go head-to-head this weekend. Both teams are 5-1 and have Super Bowl hopes. Although not likely, this could realistically be a Super Bowl preview. Wins in the NFL do not come easy, so this game is an opportunity for both teams to pick up an extra win against a tough opponent and help secure one of the top seeds in their conference ahead of the playoffs.

The Philadelphia Eagles will play the Miami Dolphins on October 22 in Philadelphia. The Eagles are favoured on NFL betting sites. They have -147 odds on Tonybet. The Dolphins are underdogs heading into this game at +125. Both teams are 5-1. These are two of the highest scoring teams in the league. The Dolphins lead the league with 37.2 points per game. The Eagles are fifth with 25.8 ppg.

The Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles suffered their first loss of the season last week. They were defeated by the New York Jets. They were held to their lowest point total of the season in a 20-14 game. That was the first time they scored less than 20 points in a game this season, but the Jets have one of the better defenses in the NFL. The Dolphins are allowing the seventh most ppg so far. The Dolphins do not have a defense that is comparable to that of the Jets. They should be able to win this game because they can pressure the quarterback and put up points. 

The Eagles have not been a juggernaut this season but they are 5-1 and have talent all over the roster. Quarterback Jalen Hurts’ ability to run and throw the ball should cause the Dolphins defense a lot of trouble. The Dolphins will have a tough time if they do not stop the Eagles running game. They weren’t able to stop the Bills from running or throwing, which is a huge reason they allowed over 40 points. This game will be similar if the Eagles can run the ball and Hurts does not have a bad game.

The Miami Dolphins

After losing to the Buffalo Bills 48-20, the Dolphins picked up two straight wins against the 1-5 New York Giants and the winless Carolina Panthers. The Buffalo Bills had a lot of success against the Dolphins because they were able to rush the passer effectively, putting constant pressure on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The Eagles are fifth in sacks this season with 20 sacks so far. All of the Dolphins’ wins so far this year were against teams that are in the top 10 for most points allowed this season, and none of those teams have more than two wins.

The Dolphins have one of the most explosive offenses in the league, but they were held to 20 points against the Bills. The Eagles have been an average team on defense so far by the numbers. They are allowing 20.7 points per game. They gave up 28 points to the Minnesota Vikings in week two and 31 points to the Washington Commanders in week four. The Dolphins are in a similar spot as they were when they played against the Bills in week four. They are up against a team that is one of the best on offense and has talent on both sides of the ball. If Tagovailoa and the Dolphins offense does not have a stellar game, this game should be similar to that Bills game in which they were defeated by 28 points, but not as lopsided.
