2023-24 Premier League Futures: Man City Tipped to Repeat

It hasn’t been long since the 2022-23 Premier League campaign finished as Manchester City conquered the top flight once again, but we’re now just a month away from a brand new season. The Cityzens proved their worth by eventually catching up to Arsenal despite sitting behind them for most of the year and although the Gunners have some intriguing additions, the sportsbooks aren’t counting out Pep Guardiola’s side. Below, we’ll take a look at a few contenders to lift the grand prize in 2024. 

Manchester City

City is coming off a historic campaign, winning the treble. Not only did they finish first in the EPL, but the European giants finally won the Champions League along with the FA Cup. While Ilkay Gundogan is gone to Barcelona, which is a devastating loss for this club, Mateo Kovacic has joined from Chelsea, and the core of Erling Haaland, Jack Grealish, and Kevin De Bruyne, among others, remain at the Etihad. It’s hard to imagine Haaland besting his first season with City, but there is no question the Norwegian is going to keep banging in goals at a ridiculous rate. With such a strong squad from front to back, Pep’s men have to be considered a favorite both in England and in the UCL. The -135 odds at Bodog sportsbook are warranted.

Arsenal

No one expected the Gunners to be in the title race last season. But, they surprised the world and had a firm grasp on top spot for a lot of the campaign before choking down the stretch. Although finishing as a runner-up and returning to the UCL is respectable, Arsenal wanted to be the king of England. It will be hard to beat out City in 2023-24, but Mikel Arteta’s group has improved, signing long-term target Declan Rice and luring in Kai Havertz from Chelsea. The North Londoners are worth a look.

Liverpool

The Reds had a brutal start last season but managed to still qualify for Europa, although that’s not exactly where this club is used to being. As for new players, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai join from Brighton and Leipzig respectively, while Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita have left Anfield. If Darwin Nunez can thrive alongside Mo Salah up top, it’ll be huge for Jurgen Klopp’s boys. Their backline also needs to be a lot more solid. There was far too much vulnerability last term. A top-four finish is certainly possible, but I don’t believe Liverpool is a title contender.

Manchester United

United is back in the UCL but hasn’t made too many moves this summer quite yet. Mason Mount is now a Red Devil, David de Gea has left, and Manchester is set to sign Andre Onana as his replacement. Erik ten Hag’s side could use another striker though to take the load off Marcus Rashford. Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund is on their radar and may be a solid addition if they can agree to terms. With the fourth-best odds at most soccer betting sites, the best-case scenario for United next season is probably top-three. They just don't have the quality to give their Manchester foes a run for their money.
